Who We Are

Indivisible Napa unites activists in Napa County who oppose President Trump’s agenda while supporting the Progressive agenda. Our actions are guided by the Indivisible organization as well as other activist groups and organizations that promote effective ways to make a difference.

The Indivisible Napa chapter is committed to getting the disenfranchised voters in this country (over 16 million!) able to vote again. We work in the states with the largest disenfranchised populations and encourage them to check their registration and guide them in re-registering. To date, we have worked in Virginia, North Caroline, Texas, Colorado and Kentucky. We also stand for Voters Rights for all and endorse Vote By Mail in all of our efforts.

Our Actions

We write postcards and letters to disenfranchised voters, we phone bank and text bank to those same people as well as Get Out The Vote efforts, we register voters (locally, outside the district and state, even remotely), we canvass districts that need our help to Flip to Blue.  We have rallies/protests to engage locals in resisting the current political climate.

We also provide Thought Leadership (education and speakers) on items in the Progressive agenda during our monthly meetings.

Above all, we get through these challenging times by working together, commiserating together and ultimately, laughing and celebrating together!

Voting is key to our democracy and should be as easy as possible.

Ways to Volunteer:

Our June Super Activists

As you may remember if you read last month’s newsletter, we had a contest for the most involved volunteer(s).  If you did a new activity at least twice, if you brought a new activist to an activity, or if you did at least two sessions in all four of our activities, you were entered into a contest. You may have thought I was just blowing smoke, but I did keep track!  And I’m announcing our June Super Activists awards right here and now:

Jeff Bayless – new activity at least twice!  Jeff is a postcarder, a letter writer, a (new) text banker and while he didn’t phone bank in June, he has in the past!  Way to step up, Jeff!

And a tie goes to Lana Stanley and Terry Messmer for bringing in new activists!  Both Lana and Terry are postcarders par excellence and have brought in new postcarders and have created their own sub-groups for Postcards for Democracy!  Thank you for inspiring new activists!

Prizes will be awarded at our monthly meeting!  And the rest of you, don’t get discouraged!  We’re going to continue to acknowledge our Activists of the Month for July, August, September, and October!  So, keep up all your hard work!  You too may be a winner!

Therefore, Indivisible Napa is excited to offer a prize program for your efforts in the month of July:

  1. When you try a new activity for a minimum of two sessions you
will be entered into a drawing.

  2. If you bring a new activist to an activity, you will get another
    entry for each new activist.

  3. If you do at least two sessions in all four of our activities – text banking, phone banking, postcard writing, and letter writing,
you will win the Grand Prize!

There can be multiple winners and prizes will be awarded in early July! These are fun activities – you are not shoveling trenches, hauling garbage, or even weeding your garden - so try something new!

We will not be deterred in our fight for our democracy! Thank you for continuing your efforts! RSVP for all activities at info4indivisiblenapa@gmail.com

What Can I do?

01. TEXTBANKING

Textbanking is fast, easy, and effective because many people communicate by text instead of answering their phones. Texting provides direct communication with a lot of voters very quickly. The schedule fluctuates due to available texting work, so check our calendar for the latest.

02. PHONEBANKING

Phone banking is an easy, fun way to reach out to voters for canvassing or getting out the vote, carried out by volunteer phone banks (that’s us!!). We will be phone banking remotely during the Corona Crisis. We have a phone bank every Saturday, 1 -3 p.m. Stay tuned for more details. Right now, our phone banks are to Arizona to help Mark Kelly become the next Senator!

03. POSTCARDS FOR DEMOCRACY

Join us to write Post Cards to disenfranchised voters across the country. We are also writing to voters telling them to request Vote By Mail ballots. Postcard packets are available for pickup from Lisa’s porch on Tuesday afternoons from 1-4 ONLY, no exceptions please! Packets of 20 postcards (including postage) for $10/cash only please! All supplies are provided. To request packets and/or for address, email info4indivisiblenapa@gmail.com by Monday evenings at 8 p.m. or subscribe for a weekly packet(s).

04. LETTER WRITING to get out the vote! (GOTV)

Letter Writing to Super States is our effort to motivate voters with personalized letters. Through Swing Left and their new campaign The Big Send, we are writing to voters throughout the countnry, urging them to vote in the November election. Letters are very effective! Letter packets may be picked up on Thursday afternoons, 1-4 ONLY, no exceptions please at Lisa’s porch. 20 letters for $15/cash only please! All materals provided. To request a packet or to subscribe to a weekly packet, please email info4indivisiblenapa@gmail.com by Wednesday at 8 p.m

History

Immediately after the 2016 election, two outraged former congressional staffers (Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin) wrote and posted on the internet a tactical guide (Indivisible Guide) to resisting the Trump agenda.  This “Google doc” was meant to be read by friends and family.  No one could have predicted what happened next.  It went viral, sparking the creation of thousands of local Indivisible groups (now over 6000!) in red, blue and purple states, mobilizing millions of people and evolving into a defining movement of the Trump era.  From crowding town halls and killing TrumpCare to rallying around candidates to build the Blue Wave, Indivisible’s powered the fight against Trump – and pushed the limits of what was politically possible by everyday citizens.

More than a million members are taking regular, repeating, and increasingly complex actions to resist the GOPs agenda, elect local champions, and fight for progressive policies.

Indivisible Napa was formed in August 2018.  We are an arm of Indivisible.org. We connect Napa County activists with their power to influence their Members of Congress and other elected officials to keep their government on track. We make the government speak for us.  We also actively resist the Trump agenda by working on many levels to remove all of them (Trump and his enablers)  from office.
