Democracy Has Triumphed

Painting the Golden Gate Bridge

If there's anything we've learned from the political events of 2021, it's that the fight to keep our democracy is just like painting the Golden Gate Bridge - never-ending! We put everything we had into winning in November 2020, only to realize within days that we had to get right back to work to save the Senate majority by winning two (!) Senate races in Georgia in January 2021. Within an hour (!) of winning both Georgia races, we witnessed an insurrection in our Capitol. We impeached #45 a second time. And the following week we watched our efforts come to fruition by inaugurating President Biden with relief and joy!

We cannot rest on our laurels, however! During this same time, the GOP has decided that the only way they can continue to win elections is to suppress the vote (instead of being attentive to their constituents). Currently, there are over 250 new bills in 43 states waiting to be enacted to suppress the vote. Georgia, and we could write a whole newsletter just on Georgia, is under attack with two of the worst voter suppression laws currently moving through their legislature.

If we only focus on the Indivisible Napa Mission - a commitment to fighting voter suppression and re-engaging the disenfranchised voters - we will have work for the rest of our lives. Yet, it is work we must continue to do for our democracy depends on it.

We learned in 2018 and 2020 and again this year, that massive grassroots outreach and activism work. We do this one battle at a time, all the time realizing that the war on our democracy, just like painting the Golden Gate Bridge, is never-ending.

Indivisible Napa's Steering Committee had planned a well-deserved hiatus after the November election. That was postponed until after the Georgia elections. Since then, we have been hunkering down, resting, rejuvenating, recalibrating, We did, however, continue to meet monthly to discuss what we accomplished, what worked, what's next, and where we next focus our efforts. We've met twice during this downtime and have decided to ask YOU to tell us what YOU think!

And if you'd like to join the Indivisible Napa Steering Committee, we'd love to have you. Let us know here.
